Part Two of Introduction to computers for Begineers

Welcome back! in the previous publication we learnt what a computer was,the four basic tasks a computer does ,and a little depth into all the tasks from input ,output to the CPU, Now let  us look at the Memory .

The Main Memory or Storage  is usually confused with two terms that is Primary and Secondary .

The main memory of a computer is divided into two types.
The Primary Memory
Secondary Memory

The primary memory is actually sub divided into ROM and RAM
ROM = Read only Memory has got it's content and information stored permanently
RAM = Random Access Memory is commonly known as volatile memory or working memory.
This is because RAM losses its content or information if power is turned off abruptly.

However both RAM and ROM are found under Primary Memory.

The Secondary Memory
The Secondary Memory is actually all storage medias we use to store data from Hard Disk Drives,Flash Disks,Floppy Diskettes or generally commonly called Magnetic disks and Magnetic tape drives.

How about the talk about KB,MB GB ? or What is KB ?What is MB ? What is GB?

Actually computers store data by a process called digitization. Or Simple by the use of Digits these digits(0,1) are electronic states where 1 means On and 0 means Off.

That how the term Binary comes in meaning two (2) .

The smallest unit of data is a Bit or you can say

A bit is a binary value (0 or 1)

A group of 8 bits form a Byte

Approximately 1,000bytes form a Kilobyte or 1 KB = 1024 bytes (Kilo signifies 1,000 a unit volume represented as K=1024 bytes exactly ).

Approximately 1,000,000bytes form a Megabyte or  1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes  =K2

Approximately 1,000,000bytes form a Gigabyte or    1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes  = K3

For further  information and indepth unit volume keep visiting this blog or reply directly as we shall cover everything in the numbering system of computers from Binary Numbering ,Decimal number ,and Hexadecimal numbering systems.

Generally that is my brief introduction to computers for any beginners and starters. As more can be learnt or taught at later stages .

I wish all success and especially to my trainees from Open University of Tanzania - Mwanza .

Congratulations to all trainees who passed their Semester Exams in ICT at Open University of Tanzania - Mwanza i wish you  a happy graduation this weekend.

Thanks for reading my Blog always .

God Bless you .
